Sheena's early cooking memories are of learning how to make butterscotch, fudge and shortbread with her grandmother, a domestic goddess. Preparing, eating and sharing meals was always the center of family life with meals revolving around everything else. Sheena was throwing dinner parties at the age of 15, and loved nothing more than spending hours in the kitchen preparing a feast. Sheena is Irish but has enjoyed extended periods living abroad in Spain, France, Mozambique, USA, and Australia. The hunt for finding great food around the world goes on, and Sheena likes to bring an exotic flair to her cuisine. She enjoys using flavors from the Middle East and mixing them with indigenous Irish ingredients to make her Irish-inspired dishes slightly a-typical and "off the eaten path". Sheena works in a local food business specializing in Mediterranean food products and artisan Irish foods, with a special focus on farmhouse cheese. Her wife Kate is a filmmaker in Dublin. Meet your hosts Sheena and Kate at their art deco house, built in 1939, which has been renovated into a stylish home. Have a drink by the fire (in the winter) or outside on their patio before you enjoy your meal at their dining table. Your meal will be entirely vegetarian or pescatarian featuring local Irish ingredients. Sheena is a big fan of Ottolenghi and her meals are filled with fresh herbs from thyme and dill to coriander and rosemary. Your three-course meal might include dishes such as salmon or fresh crab with a dill salsa on homemade sourdough, avocado toast with homemade dukkah, rocket and garden herbs, fish en papillote with roasted paprika potatoes, curly kale with pumpkin seeds and a lemon chili jus, or a roasted mushroom parcel with fresh thyme, roasted fennel and herb barley. Your meal will conclude with either a dessert of wild berry quinoa crumble or roasted peaches with orange blossom yogurt and fresh basil or a cheese board of artisan Irish farmhouse cheese served with membrillo on seed crackers. Please note that Sheena and Kate are vegetarians/pescatarians – they serve primarily vegetarian meals with the occasional fish dish, but do not serve meat.
